Team relay without technical problems at World Junior Championships
Oberhof (pps) The team relay event was held without any technical problems at the World Junior Championships of the International Luge Federation, FIL, at Oberhof, Germany, last weekend. The German junior team with Dajana Eitberger, Julian von Schleinitz and the doubles Nico Gruessner-Toni Foertsch gained the gold medal ahead of Italy’s team with Maria Messner, Dominik Fischnaller and Ludwig Rieder-Patrick Rastner. The bronze medal went to the US team with Kate Hansen, Taylor Morris and Jacob Hyrns-Andrew Sherk.
Rieder and Rastner, who had won the first ever U23 World title at the 42nd FIL World Championships at Cesana, Italy, prevented the total domination of the hosts when they finished first in the doubles ahead of the Germans Gruessner-Foertsch and Robin Geueke-David Gamm. Germany achieved a clean sweep in the women’s singles with Dajana Eitberger, Katrin Rudolph and Luzie Loescher winning the medals. Julian von Schleinitz (GER) retained his title in the men’s singles to become the record-winning World junior champion with now three gold medals. Fellow-German Georg Reumschuessel gained silver, Italian Dominik Fischnaller the bronze medal.
A total number of 146 juniors from 18 different nations took part in the World Junior Championships in Oberhof.
