Italy worried about quota places for Beijing 2022

Rieder / Kainzwaldner

Sigulda (FIL) Optimally, the Italian lugers want to travel to the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, which will start on February 4 in China, with three women and three men in singles as well as two doubles.

Only after the upcoming 7th EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup in Sigulda (Latvia), the FIL will announce the quota places for the nations. Then the national federations with the National Olympic Committees can allocate their Olympic tickets and nominate the athletes.

Who will represent Italy in Beijing 2022 has already been decided internally in the team after the first six World Cup races, says Sport Director Armin Zoeggeler: "In the singles, Dominik and Kevin Fischnaller as well as Leon Felderer will be nominated, if Italy should get the three quota places. In the doubles we are also still anxious about the two places. That would be Emanuel Rieder/Simon Kainzwaldner and Ivan Nagler/Fabian Malleier. In the women's singles, Andrea Vötter, Verena Hofer and Nina Zöggeler are the contenders for the Olympic tickets," explains two-time Olympic and six-time World champion Armin Zöggeler.
