Jack Leslie scores New Zealands first World Cup win
Alpe di Siusi (PMA) - Second Junior World Cup on Natural Track ended with a premiere. Jack Leslie from New Zealand won the men's competition and secured a maiden victory for his country. For the first time in history an athlete from Oceania won a race on natural track. Victory at the women's competition went to Italian Daniela Mittermair.
There has been sunny weather and top conditions at the second Junior World Cup at Alpe di Siusi. The final competition run and the premiere of the pursuit race where scheduled on Wednesday. Many spectators joined the event. Jack Leslie from New Zealand was leading the men's race after the first run. With a perfect second run he secured his maiden victory.
He won ahead of Florian Haselrieder from Italy, with a gap of 32 hundredths. Third place went to Laurin Jakob Kompatscher (ITA), who went from sixth place to the podium with a fantastic second run.
Mittermair wins on home soil
Women's competition went to Daniela Mittermair from Italy. She won ahead of Alexandra Pfattner, only by a lead of two hundredths after two runs. Third place went to German Theresa Maurer. She recovers from a ninth place at the first competition run and jumps on the podium again. The German is leading at the Overall World Cup, sharing her lead with Pfattner.
Premiere of the pursuit race was won by Jack Leslie and Alexandra Pfattner. They won the big finals, after several knock-out-duels.
Third FIL Junior Luge World Cup on Natural Track is hosted at Umhausen, Austria, from 16th to 17th January.
