Altenberg (RWH) The search for a new managing director for Altenberg bobsleigh, luge and skeleton track has come to an end. On 1 June 2019, Jens Morgenstern will take over from Matthias Benesch, the outgoing managing director of Wintersport Altenberg GmbH (WiA). The announcement was made by the Rural District Office for Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirgen in Pirna, Germany. The Rural District Office is one of the shareholders of the track’s operating company (WiA) along with the City of Altenberg and the Sachsen luge, bobsleigh and skeleton association.

The sliding track in Germany’s Eastern Ore Mountains is a mainstay on the International Luge Federation’s (FIL) Viessmann World Cup schedule and is also due to host the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation’s (IBSF) World Championships at the end of February 2020.

As the chairman of BSC Winterberg sliding sports association, Jens Morgenstern is well versed with the scene and previously worked as the district manager of a sports association in the German state of Nordrhein-Westfalen. According to the announcement made by the Rural District Office, Jens Morgenstern was the unanimous choice to take on the role at the end of the second application process. Matthias Benesch will be taking over as managing director of Sachsen’s state sliding sports association.
