Jessica Tiebel announces retirement

Jessica Tiebel

Altenberg (RWH) Jessica Tiebel, one of the most talented hopefuls of Germany, has announced her retirement. The 21 years old athlete informed her club, RRC Altenberg, in an official letter about her decision. Jessica Tiebel had won three gold medals in women’s single at Junior World Championships and one with the German team relays. At the 2016 Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer (NOR) she claimed silver in women’s single and gold with the German team relay.

“This was not a easy decision for me. But in the last couple of years I recognized that I’m missing the fun during practising luge. Physically as well as mentally I’ve reached my personal limits”, Jessica Tiebel wrote. “Lately it has been it was very difficult for me to motivate myself and to become part of the national team.”

January 2018 at her premiere in Viessmann World Cup, she instantly reached third place. At the season’s opener 2019/2020 she repeated this result at Innsbruck-Igls. Later Germany’s head coach Norbert Loch did not nominate her on her own wish for the 49th World Championships in Sochi, Russia. “Problems with motivation and fear of failure” was the reason given in an official press release.
