Julia Taubitz Back On Track For Success –
Two American Women on the Podium
Lake Placid (FIL/20 Dec 2025) The US luge team put in a convincing team performance at the EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup in Lake Placid. Ashley Farquharsen and Summer Britcher stood on the podium at their home race, with Emily Fischnaller following close behind. However, Julia Taubitz was the fastest. The world champion from Germany improved from third place to the top spot with the fastest run of the day in 44.334 seconds. Her total time was 1:28.824 minutes. Farquharson was 0.132 seconds behind. This was the 26-year-old's second podium finish after coming third on her home track in Park City a week ago. Britcher, who stood at the top of the podium in Park City, came third in Lake Placid with 0.230.
Fischnaller was the fastest in the first run in 44.467 seconds, but fell back to fourth place (0.247) after only the fourth-fastest run (44.604) in the second heat. Fifth place went to Austria's Lisa Schulte (0.395) ahead of Merle Fräbel (Germany/0.624).
After a poor start to the winter with twelfth (Winterberg) and eighth (Park City) places, Taubitz was able to shine again after her 31st World Cup victory. “I started the season differently than the last two years,” said the five-time overall World Cup winner, “the first two races were very painful, but that's part of the process on the way to the Olympics. That's why I'm happy to go into the Christmas break with a victory. It gives me momentum for the next few weeks.” The 30-year-old particularly likes the 1,130-meter track at Mount Van Hoevenberg. “I've always been able to achieve good results here,” she admitted, “I still hold the track record with 43.658 seconds.”
“I had good speed in the second run, but unfortunately made a small mistake in the chicane,” Farquharson analyzed her race, “With the support of the spectators, racing is really fun.” One week after her victory in Park City, Britcher was also delighted with her next podium finish. “For us Americans, the tracks in Park City and Lake Placid are something special. That's why I'm particularly happy about this result.” Especially since her mother was sitting in the stands, celebrating her birthday that day.
