Julia Taubitz continues German winning streak

Königssee (RWH) Julia Taubitz pipped Russia’s Tatyana Ivanova at the post to win the Viessmann World Cup and continue Germany’s winning streak in the overall classification. Anna Berreiter (GER) took her second victory of the season on her home track in Königssee while second place was sufficient for Julia Taubitz to win the Joska Cup for the first time on 965 points. Her nearest rival Tatyana Ivanova finished sixth to miss out on Russia’s first ever female victory in the Viessmann World Cup by just eight points.

The Italian Gerda Weissensteiner was the last non-German female luger to claim overall victory in the Viessmann World Cup back in in the 1997/1998 season. Julia Taubitz is the natural successor to Natalie Geisenberger, who claimed seven consecutive wins and is currently taking a break from the sport to have a baby.

Third in Königssee went to Russia’s Viktoriia Demchenko, who also clinched third place in the overall standings with 722 points. Anna Berreiter’s second victory of the season leaves her fourth overall with 637 points.  Austrian Madeleine Egle finished fifth, as she did in Sigulda (LAT). Junior World Champion Jessica Degenhardt (GER) finished eleventh on her World Cup debut.
