Julia Taubitz, Repilov and Sics/Sics win BMW Sprint World Cup

Lake Placid (RWH) Germany’s Julia Taubitz, the Russian Roman Repilov and Juris Sics/Andris Sics from Latvia (doubles) have won the BMW Sprint World Cup in Lake Placid.  After Lake Placid there are two remaining BMW Sprint World Cups on the calendar – on 14 December in Whistler (CAN) and on 26 January 2020 in Sigulda (LAT).

Julia Taubitz managed to double her number of World Cup wins within 24 hours. Just a day after her victory in the Olympic discipline, the 23-year-old also won the the BMW Sprint World Cup and celebrated the fourth individual victory of her career. She finished ahead of the three Americans Emily Sweeney, Summer Britcher and Ashley Farquharson, who finished second, third and fourth respectively. Taubitz now leads the overall World Cup standings with 270 points. Second and third place are now held by Summer Britcher (230) and Tatyana Ivanova, who has 197 points after finishing fifth in the sprint. 

Roman Repilov repeated last year’s victory. Roman Repilov, the overall winner of the Viessmann Luge World Cup, repeated last year’s victory, finishing ahead of the USA’s Tucker West and Austrian Jonas Müller in second and third respectively. Müller leads the overall standings with 270 points ahead of Repilov (245) and Dominik Fischnaller (195) from Italy.

The Sics brothers have competed in the World Cup since the winter season of 2004/2005 so their first victory has been a long time coming. In Lake Placid, the experienced duo relegated the German pairing of Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken and Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt to second and third respectively. After three of twelve events, Eggert/Benecken now lead the overall standings of the Viessmann Luge World Cup with 270 points ahead of Wendl/Arlt (255) and Sics/Sics (205).
