Julia Taubitz, Semen Pavlichenko and Putins/Marcinkevics win BMW Sprint World Cup

Sigulda (RWH) Germany’s Julia Taubitz, Russia’s Semen Pavlichenko and Latvia’s Kristens Putins/Imants Marcinkevics have emerged as the winners of the BMW Sprint World Cup in Sigulda. Julia Taubitz, Roman Repilov (RUS) and Andris Sics/Juris Sics (LAT) won the overall classification after the last of three events – Lake Placid (USA), Whistler (CAN) and Sigulda (LAT).

With a double victory in Sigulda, Julia Taubitz has assumed the lead in the overall standings of the Viessmann World Cup. 24 hours after her success in the Olympic discipline, the 2019 World Championship silver medallist also claimed victory in the BMW Sprint World Cup.  As a result, Taubitz heads into her home World Cup on the first weekend of February in Oberhof (GER) at the top of the leaderboard. She won the BMW Sprint World Cup ahead of Viktoriia Demchenko and Tatyana Ivanova (both RUS), the previous leaders.  After nine of twelve events, Taubitz now has 750 points, while Ivanova has 737. Viktoriia Demchenko (537) lies third overall.

Semen Pavlichenko won the men’s sprint ahead of Italy’s European Champion Dominik Fischnaller in second place. Third went to Olympic Champion David Gleirscher from Austria. Roman Repilov, who finished twelfth in the BMW Sprint World Cup, retains his lead in the overall standings of the Viessmann World Cup on 653 points. Second is Dominik Fischnaller (595) ahead of Pavlichenko (524) and David Gleirscher (469).

Kristens Putins/Imants Marcinkevics took a surprise win in the doubles ahead of Italian duo Emanuel Rieder/Simon Kainzwaldner. Their Latvian teammates Andris Sics/Juris Sics came home in third place. World Champions Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken of Germany lead the overall classification on 722 points ahead of Olympic Champions Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (GER) with 662 points. Sics/Sics are now third on 526 points.
