ST. SEBASTIAN. The third event of the Junior Luge World Cup 2017/2018 was held from January 13th to 14th 2018 in St. Sebastian (AUT).
At the men’s event, Florian Haselrieder (ITA) was victorious: The Italian had a time of 1:42.93 minutes and won his first race of this season, ahead of Florian Markt (AUT) and Daniel Gruber (ITA). In the overall standings, Markt outpaced his teammate Fabian Achenrainer and took the lead, but only ten points separate the two Austrians before the last race in Umhausen (AUT). Laurin Jakob Kompatscher (ITA) ranks third in the overall standings.
At the women’s event, the Italian team could celebrate a triple victory once again: Nadine Staffler won her second race in a row and therefore was able to secure her lead in the overall standings. She now has 40 points more than runner-up Christa Unterholzner (ITA), who had ranked second in St. Sebastian, followed by Camilla Singer. In the overall standings, however, the German Lisa Walch ranks third.
At the doubles’ event, Fabian Achenrainer/Miguel Brugger (AUT) remain unbeaten: The Austrians won their third race in a row and still rank first in the overall standings. With a lead of 60 points ahead of runner-ups Josef Limmer/Simon Dietz (GER), Achenrainer/Brugger only need to come in fourth at the finals in Umhausen to win the title. The Germans, in turn, who had ranked third in St. Sebastian, have to keep Kirill Kravchuck/Aleksandr Zyrianov (RUS) at bay: The Russians came in second in St. Sebastian and have only 15 points less now than Limmer/Dietz.
So the champions will only be determined in Umhausen, where the finals of the Junior Luge World Cup season 2017/2018 will be held from January 27th to 28th 2018.
