Junior World Championship titles won by Jessica Tiebel, Kristers Aparjods, Orlamünder/Gubitz and Russia’s Relay

Sigulda (RWH) The 2017 Junior World Champions in luge are Jessica Tiebel from Germany, Latvia’s Kristers Aparjods, the German doubles pairing of Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Gubitz and Russia (Team Relay).

Local hero Aparjods lived up to his billing as hot favourite at the 32nd Junior World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Sigulda, Latvia. The Youth Olympic Champion of 2016 took victory ahead of Austrian luger Nico Gleirscher, son of the 1997 World Championship bronze medallist Gerhard Gleirscher, in second. Third place went to Germany’s Max Langenhan.

The women’s competition was won by Jessica Tiebel (GER), who was a silver medallist at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer. Silver and bronze at the Junior World Championships in Sigulda were awarded to the two Russians Tatyana Tcvetova and Olesya Mikhaylenko.

Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz won the doubles title ahead of two Russian duos. Russia in the line-up with Tatyana Tcvetova, Evgeniy Petrov und Vsevold Kashkin/Konstantin Korshunov won Gold in the Team Relay. Silver and Bronze went to Germany (Jessica Tiebel, Max Langenhan und Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Gubitz) and Austria (Madelaine Egle, Nico Gleirscher und Florian Schmid/Peter Strickner).
