Three nations to share twelve medals Koenigssee (pps) At the Junior World Championships on the artificially refrigerated track in Koenigssee, three nations shared the twelve medals that were awarded. In the junior men’s singles Russia’s Vladimir Pitilimov won the gold medal, only narrowly ahead of Italy’s Dominik Fischnaller. The young luger from South Tyrol, who finished 11th at the Worlds last week in Altenberg (Germany), went into the competition unseeded with the start number 14. On fourth position after the first run and with a best time in the second run (0.078 seconds behind) he eventually had to settle for second place. Germany’s Georg Reumschuessel won bronze. In the junior women’s singles and doubles the hosts won all three medals. In the singles the winners were Aileen Frisch ahead of Nathalie Burkhardt and Katrin Rudolph. In the doubles the team of Nico Gruessner-Toni Foertsch won the gold medal ahead of Robin Geueke-David Gamm and Tim Brendel-Florian Funk. Germany also won the Team Relay event with Aileen Frisch, Georg Reumschuessel and Gruessner-Foertsch. Russia’s quartet (Pitilimov, Ekaterina Baturina and Andrey Bogdanov-Andrey Medvedev) earned the silver medal ahead of Italy (Fischnaller, Maria Messner and Florian Gruber-Simon Kainzwaldner).
