Karl-Friedrich Schauhoff appointed acting FIL Ethics Authority

Salzburg (FIL/03 Dec 2023) After the tragic accident of FIL Ethics Authority Dr. Jochen Fritzzweiler in July, this position was temporarily vacant. The FIL Presidium has now appointed Karl-Friedrich Schauhoff acting FIL Ethics Authority.

Until the 72nd FIL Congress in 2024, which will take place on June 14 and 15 in Lake Placid (USA), the 66-year-old attorney from Frankfurt am Main will hold this honorary position. The delegates of the 72nd FIL Congress will then decide on this position by election.

Karl-Friedrich Schauhoff was born in Hilden (GER) in the Rhineland and studied law at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He has been a member of the German Association for Sports Law since 1992. Commenting on his appointment, he said: "I am looking forward to this challenging position and will endeavor to responsibly fulfil the associated tasks in the spirit of my predecessors."

Norbert Hiedl was the first Ethics Authority of the International Luge Federation (FIL). The then 68-year-old lawyer from Waltrop, Germany, was elected at the 65th FIL Congress in Constanta, Romania, in 2017.

At the 70th FIL Congress in Hall in Tirol (AUT) in 2022, Norbert Hiedl was awarded the FIL Medal of Honor in Gold for his work as Chairman of the FIL Court of Arbitration since 1996, as FIL Ethics Authority since 2017 and as the main person responsible for the development and implementation of the FIL Code of Ethics.

His successor as FIL Ethics Authority was Dr. Jochen Fritzweiler. Fritzweiler tragically died in a hiking accident in July 2023. Since then, the position of the Ethics Authority has been vacant.
