Lake Placid (FIL/15 June 2024) At the 72nd FIL Congress, held on Saturday, June 15, in Lake Placid (USA), the 66-year-old lawyer from Frankfurt am Main, Karl-Friedrich Schauhoff, was elected as the FIL's Ethics Officer. Schauhoff had already been acting in this honorary capacity.

After the tragic hiking accident of his predecessor Dr. Jochen Fritzweiler on July 14, 2023, the position of Ethics Officer was temporarily vacant. In December 2023, the FIL Presidium finally appointed Karl-Friedrich Schauhoff as the new Ethics Officer on a temporary basis.

Karl-Friedrich Schauhoff was born in Hilden, Rhineland (GER), and studied law at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He has been a member of the German Association for Sports Law since 1992.

Norbert Hiedl and Dr. Jochen Fritzweiler were the predecessors

Norbert Hiedl was the first Ethics Officer of the International Luge Federation (FIL). At the 65th FIL Congress in Constanta, Romania, in 2017, the then 68-year-old lawyer from Waltrop in Germany was elected.

At the 70th FIL Congress in Hall in Tyrol (AUT) in 2022, Norbert Hiedl was awarded the FIL Gold Medal of Honor for his work as Chairman of the FIL Court of Arbitration since 1996, Ethics Officer of the FIL since 2017 and main person responsible for the design and creation of the FIL Code of Ethics.

In 2022, Dr. Jochen Fritzweiler succeeded Hiedl as the FIL's ethics officer, a position he held until his fatal accident in July 2023.
