Schmiedefeld (RWH) Karl-Heinz Anschütz, who acted as sports coordinator for the International Luge Federation (FIL) for many years, will be 70 on Thursday, 24 July. Anschütz, who runs a guest house with his wife Ilka in in the Thuringian Forest, was responsible for the Viessmann World Cup for over a decade until 2010.

During his term as sports coordinator, the team relay was introduced as a World Cup discipline, going on to make a brilliant Olympic debut at the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, in February 2014. The comprehensive evaluation system for organisers was also launched under Anschütz's leadership.
