Korea Luge Federation successfully concludes the FIL Luge School for Asia

Asian Luge School 2025

PyeongChang (FIL/07 Mrz 2025) The Korea Luge Federation (KLF) announced that the FIL Luge School 2025 was successfully concluded on March 4. The 10-day international training camp for luge took place at the PyeongChang Olympic Sliding Center.

The event began at the end of February and followed on from the excitement of the 8th EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup, which returned to PyeongChang after an eight-year absence.

This special program is an international event for young athletes worldwide who are at a beginner's level in the sport of luge. Two professional coaches of the Youth A category and Fred Zimny, Development Director of the International Luge Federation (FIL), took part in this program.

Around 30 athletes from seven countries – South Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Australia and Georgia – took part.

From February 23 to March 4, the participants completed an intensive training program with more than two sessions per day, both on the actual luge track and on the indoor start facility. In addition, the KLF organized special tours for the participants, including visits to the city of Gangneung, the Alpensia Ski Jumping Stadium and the museum of the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.

KLF President Lim Soon-gil explained: “In Europe, there is a broad base of support for young athletes through well-organized club structures at various luge tracks. In Asia, where luge has a comparatively smaller market presence, events like this are essential to further develop the sport and discover talented athletes.” He also expressed his thanks to the FIL and the Pyeongchang 2018 Legacy Foundation for the excellent cooperation in implementing this event.

Fred Zimny, FIL Development Director, highlighted the importance of international support for such programs: "Thanks to the IOC Solidarity program, as well as the Korea Luge Federation and the Pyeongchang Legacy Foundation, we were able to make this FIL School a reality in Asia. Their dedication to developing luge in this region is invaluable, and we are excited to see young talents grow from this initiative."

According to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in February this year between the FIL, KLF, the province of Gangwon and the municipality of PyeongChang, further international luge events can be expected in PyeongChang in the future.
