Winterberg (pps) Germany’s Olympic champion Sylke Otto could cash US$10,000 put up by the International Luge Federation, FIL, and its marketing partners, KirchSport, if she gains her fourth successive victory in the Krombacher Challenge Cup on the Winterberg Bob Track on Friday (start at 9:15 CET).
The 33-year-old World and European champion who has already won 4,650 Euro just in the current Krombacher Challenge Cup, is the only athlete with a chance of winning the small “jackpot” of US$10,000. Sylke Otto is already the 2002-2003 World Cup champion even before the last event of the Viessmann Luge World Cup on Saturday. The Krombacher Challenge Cup at Winterberg has a total prize money of 14,610 Euro.
Austria’s Markus Kleinheinz, also leader of the Viessmann Luge World Cup, and his team-mates Tobias Schiegl-Markus Schiegl lead the rankings in the Krombacher Challenge Cup in the men’s and doubles’ events. Kleinheinz (270 points) has a 45-point lead from Germany’s three-time Olympic champion Georg Hackl (225) before the final. Schiegl/Schiegl (255) have the same lead from the American Olympic silver medallists Mark Grimmette-Brian Martin (210) in the doubles.
