Lillehammer (pps) Germany’s Sylke Otto and Austria’s Markus Kleinheinz and Andreas Linger-Wolfgang Linger lead the Krombacher Challenge Cup after the opener at Altenberg. The second of altogether four events of the Krombacher Challenge Cup 2002-2003 will be staged by Lillehammer, Norway, on Friday, January 17 (9:00-11:00 hrs CET). The Challenge Cup will thus return to its roots, as the 1994 Olympic track hosted the inauguration of the event four years ago.
This then Olympic champion Sylke Otto has won the overall event every year. The Krombacher Challenge Cup boasts a total prize money of almost Euro 60,000. The prize money at stake in Lillehammer amounts to Euro 14,610.
Markus Kleinheinz, who also leads the Viessmann Luge World Cup, is following in the tracks of his fellow-countryman and 2002 Olympic bronze medallist, Markus Prock, who won the Krombacher Challenge Cup last year at the end of his career. The Linger brothers, Andreas and Wolfgang, are the first Austrian doubles with an opportunity to achieve the overall victory. The final two events of the Krombacher Challenge Cup will be determined at Igls, Austria on January 24, and at Winterberg, Germany, on February 7.
