Park City (pps) Tony Benshoof wrote on Friday a small chapter of US luge history. Winning the Krombacher Challenge Cup in Park City, the 28-year old athlete was the first US-winner in an international race on a hometrack ever. Benshoof, who already won the first stage of Krombacher Challenge Cup in Altenberg (Germany), celebrated his victory in 45,932 seconds followed by Italy`s Olympic Champion Armin Zöggeler (46,056) and Germany`s David Möller (46,075). The three-time Olympic Champion Georg Hackl (46,102) from Germany finished 4th.
The victory in women`s race went to Germany. It was the 75th victory in a row since November 1997. Silke Kraushaar took the lead in 44,604 seconds followed by Barbara Niedernhuber (44,612) and Sylke Otto (44,695).
The doubles race was won by Germany`s Andre Florschütz/Torsten Wustlich in 44,366 seconds followed by their teammates and Olympic Champions Patric Leitner/Alexander Resch (44,384) and Italy`s Gerhard Plankensteiner/Oswald Haselrieder (44,431).
The overall leaders in Krombacher Challenge Cup are Sylke Otto (170 points), Tony Benshoof (200) and Austria`s Andreas Linger/Wolfgang Linger (160), who finished 4th in Park City.
