On the initiative of the International Luge Federation’s marketing partner KirchSport/ formerly CWL, as in the previous season, US$ 10,000 (small Krombacher jackpot) as well as US$ 50,000 (Krombacher super jackpot) can be won if the necessary requirements are met. In case more than one athlete should meet the requirements, the money will be split up between these athletes.
In order to hit the small jackpot, an athlete or doubles team must win two of the four Krombacher Challenge Cups, the Königssee Super Cup on December 28, 2001 as well as the overall ranking of the Three-Track-Tournament, which will take place in Königssee, Igls and Oberhof in mid-December. For this ranking, the World Cup points of these three races will be added up.
In order to hit the Krombacher super jackpot, an athlete or doubles team must hit the small Krombacher jackpot and set up four track records at the seven competitions of the Viessmann World Cup series including the Krombacher Challenge Cups or at the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. Only those track records will be counted that are not broken again during the same event, considering a race weekend including Challenge Cup and World Cup as one event. Besides, the athlete or doubles team must finish at least third at the race (World Cup or Challenge Cup) during which the track record was set up.
In the past winter, World Champion Sylke Otto (Germany) had been able to hit the small jackpot, but only just failed to meet the requirements of the big jackpot.
