At the FIL World Cup in natural track luge in Laas/Lasa (ITA), Matthias Lambacher/Peter Lambacher (ITA) celebrated their second victory of the season in the doubles. For the local heroes, however, it was a working victory that was only decided from the last split to the finish.

Peter Lambacher/Matthias Lambacher celebrate also in Lasa

Laas/Lasa (FIL/06.01.2023) Saturday began on the edge of the Stelvio National Park with around 10 centimeters of fresh snow and slightly warm temperatures. This weather caused soft ice on the 850-meter-long Gafair-track, tricky conditions that require a high degree of adaptability, especially in the double-seater. The brothers Matthias Lambacher/Peter Lambacher solved this task best; with a time of 1:09.48 minutes they celebrated their second win of the season in the second race, ahead of Maximilian Pichler/Nico Edlinger (AUT/+0.20 seconds), who were still in the lead at the last intermediate time. Third place for the newcomers Tobias Paur/Andreas Hofer (ITA/+0.48). Paur/Hofer, who are still competing in the Junior World Cup, celebrated their first podium finish in their World Cup debut.

Maximilian Pichler/Nico Edlinger: No risk, no fun

“It wasn't easy to find the right setup today. Luckily we changed the setup after the training run. This was the best deciscion,” analyzed Matthias Lambacher during the winner’s interview. However, Nico Edlinger accepted the challenge: “The gap to the winners is getting smaller and smaller, we will be on top at the next World Cup in Umhausen.” “We never thought we would be on the podium in our first World Cup race, that’s something special,” said Tobias Paur.

After two races, Lambacher/Lambacher lead the overall standings with 200 points, ahead of Pichler/Edlinger (170) and Peter Neupauer/Dominik Neupauer (SVK) with 130 points.

On Sunday the races in the women's singles and men's singles are scheduled on the Gafair-track from 10 a.m.
