Altenberg (pps) Silke Kraushaar-Pielach of Germany, Armin Zoeggeler of Italy and his compatriots Gerhard Plankensteiner-Oswald Haselrieder were last year’s winners in the Viessmann Luge World Cup final in Sigulda. On his home track “local hero” Martins Rubenis, Latvia, achieved a second place behind Zoeggler but ahead of Russia’s Albert Demchenko. In the women’s singles both the silver and bronze medal went to non-German athletes: Ukraine’s Natalia Yakushenko gained the second place ahead of Nina Reithmayer of Austria. Despite a seventh place in Sigulda, Germany’s Leitner-Resch grabbed their fifth overall World Cup victory. Christian Oberstolz-Patrick Gruber, Italy, and Andreas Linger-Wolfgang Linger, Austria, took the second and third position behind the winners Plankensteiner-Haselrieder.
