Latsch's track is ready for the World Cup on natural track
Latsch (PMA) South Tyrol is the host of the 2nd Luge World Cup on Natural Track of the International Luge Federation (FIL). The races are held from 8th to 10th of January. The organisation committee of Latsch worked day and night to prepare the track. Due to the warm conditions of the last weeks this was no easy job for the chiefs of the track Hermann Castiglioni and Anton Pircher.
Latsch's last World Cup races have been held six years ago. All victories went to the Italian team. Renate Gietl won the Women's event. Hannes Clara was successful at the Men's race. Doubles win went to Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara. The two were also the winners at this seasons opening race at Kühtai and are leading the Doubles World Cup after one competition.
Tina Unterberger is ready to defend her World Cup overall leading position. After six years, she was the first Austrian women who won a World Cup race. "I'm sure that Ekaterina Lavrentyeva wants to score another win, after finishing only fourth at the first race of the season. Also the Italian ladies Evelin Lanthaler, Greta Pinggera and Sara Bachmann are highly motivated to celebrate a victory in front of their home crowd", describes Unterberger.
At the men's competiton all the athletes are chasing Patrick Pigneter. The Italian is the big favorite for the win. Team-mate Alex Gruber and the Italian squad wants to claim Pigneter's number one status and also the Austrians Michael Scheikl and Thomas Kammerlander are in the hunt.
