Latvia’s Valdis Ķuzis to receive lufetime achievement award

Riga (RWH) Former olympian and luge athlete Valdis Ķuzis, who still continues to work as a technician, will receive a lifetime achievement award. Ķuzis, who finished 9th at the 1976 Winter Olympic Games in doubles event together with Rolands Upatnieks, will receive a “Latvian Annual Sports awards” prize for dedicating his life to sport. This was now published by the Latvian Luge Federation in Riga. The official prize giving ceremony on Devember 21 will be broadcasted by Latvian Television
The 73 year old Latvian Valdis Kuzis was not only a successful athlete, but also an excellent sled mechanic. In the 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1994 Olympic Games he was chief technician and prepared sleds for others. In 1989 together with Edvīns Guršpons he founded a company “Fiberglass”, which now mostly provides sleds for youngsters. Ķuzis was a longtime Race Director for many events of the Viessmann Luge World Cup and various Championships in Sigulda. For the International Luge Federation he worked at the 2006 Olympic Games at Turin as Technical Delegate.
