Park City (pps) The Olympic luge track in Park City, built for the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City in the U.S. state of Utah, will host its sixth Viessmann Luge World Cup event. The last time that the series made a stop on the artificially refrigerated track at the “Utah Olympic Park” was in the 2010-2011 season. The decision in the doubles’ event ended with quite a curiosity: Austria’s teams of Andreas Linger-Wolfgang Linger and Peter Penz-Georg Fischler posted exactly the same time. Tied to a thousandth of a second, the two doubles were tied for first place and shared the victory.
The last time two teams shared a victory in the Viessmann Luge World Cup occurred on February 8, 2003 in Winterberg when Germany’s Patric Leitner-Alexander Resch and Mark Grimmette-Brian Martin (USA) shared the podium’s top spot. Thanks to the success, Grimmette-Martin earned the overall Viessmann Luge World Cup that time, just nine points ahead of Leitner-Resch.
It was the first World Cup victory for Penz-Fischler in 2010-2011. In the meantime they have become the second strongest doubles team in Austria behind two-time Olympic Champions Linger-Linger
Winner in the women’s singles was Olympic Champion Tatjana Huefner ahead of compatriot Anke Wischnewski and Canada’s Alex Gough. By the way, Natalie Geisenberger and Felix Loch both had to make do with fourth place results at that time. Winner in the men’s singles was Italy’s Armin Zoeggeler, ahead of Andi Langenhan (GER) and Viktor Kneyb (RUS).
