Eschrich improves Zöggeler’s track Record
Winterberg (pps) Local hero Corinna Martini took the first step towards a perfect personal season’s opener. After one year without any experience the 23 year old girl from Winterberg won the Nations Cup and qualified easily for the Viessmann Luge World Cup at her hometown on Sunday. Martini won in 57,141seconds followed by her team-mate Steffi Sieger (0,137 seconds back)) and Canada’s Alex Gough (0,358 back). Corinna Martini achieved a third (Oberhof) and a fifth place (Winterberg). Last season, the competition within the German national team was so strong that Martini missed to compete in a World Cup event.
Germany’s Ronny Pietrasik/Christian Weise won the double’s race. But they are not registered for the Viessmann World Cup. Second place went to Germany’s Junior World Champions Toni Eggert/Marcel Oster followed by Russia’s Michail Kuzmich/Stanislav Mikheev.
Robert Eschrich from Germany improved in the men’s race the track record of Italy’s two-time Olympic Champion Armin Zöggeler. Eschrich clocked after 53,759 Seconds, the old record stood by 54,151 seconds. Second place went to Bengt Walden from USA followed by Austria’s Manuel Pfister.
