Steffi Sieger versus Corinna Martini

Cesana (pps) Germany’s fourth ticket for the 41st FIL Luge World Championships in Lake Placid in the US state of New York (February 2-8, 2009) will be determined between Steffi Sieger (Koenigssee) and Corinna Martini (Winterberg). While defending World champion Tatjana Huefner, World runner-up Natalie Geisenberger and Anke Wischnewski (2007 World silver medallist) seem to have punched their tickets for Lake Placid, Sieger and Martini have to fight for the fourth starting place.

To date, Steffi Sieger has earned two fifth places in Igls and Koenigssee. The overall junior World Cup winner will get another chance to prove herself at the Viessmann Luge World Cup event in Cesana next weekend. Corinna Martini, on the other hand, has achieved a fourth place in Winterberg and will start twice in the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Oberhof and Altenberg. “And after these stops it’s time to take stock and to add the points. The fourth ticket then goes to the luger who scored the greatest number of points.” Germany’s head coach Norbert Loch explained the procedure for nomination.

The German Bobsleigh and Sled Sports Federation, BSD, has not yet taken a decision with regard to the starting places in the men’s singles and double-seater.
