Madeleine Egle, Aparjods and Nagler/Malleier crowned first U23 European Champions

Lillehammer (RWH) Madeleine Egle (AUT), Kristers Aparjods (LAT) and Ivan Nagler/Fabian Malleier (ITA) have been crowned the first U23 European champions at the test event organized by the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Lillehammer. The title winners were decided using the race-in-race format at last weekend’s Viessmann World Cup, which also doubled as the 51st FIL European Championships.

Austria’s Madeleine Egle, who won Olympic bronze with the red-white-red relay team in 2018 took victory ahead of the German sliders Jessica Tiebel and Anna Berreiter, who claimed second and third respectively. Nagler/Malleier (ITA) had the upper hand over Vsevolod Kashkin/Konstantin Korshunov (RUS) and the Ukrainian pairing of Ihor Stakhiv/Andrii Lysetskyi. The men’s race was won by Kristers Aparjods, the 2016 Youth Olympic Champion, ahead of Sprint World Champion Jonas Müller of Austria. Third went to Junior World Champion Max Langenhan from Germany.
