Maiden victory for Tina Unterberger
Kühtai (PMA) - Austrian Tina Unterberger won the 1st FIL Luge World Cup on Natural Track in Kühtai, Austria. The 29-year-old from Bad Goisern won the parallel event and celebrated her first maiden World Cup victory. "I'm speechless. I knew it could be my day today. After the quarter-finals my heart was in my mouth. My roommate Michelle Diepold pushed me hard and nearly finished my day. Parallel races are close decisions", stated the Austrian.
Unterberger won the Big Final against World Champion Evelin Lanthaler from Italy. "I'm happy with my result. I don't grudge Tina her success. Next race is in Italy so we will fight back to be on top of the podium. Now we are waiting to race on the classic tracks. I prefer them more", explained Lanthaler. Third place went also to Italy and Greta Pinggera. She won the Small Final against last year's Overall World Cup winner Ekaterina Lavrentyeva from Russia.
