Mariazell (FIL/02.02.2023) At the 37th Junior European Championships in natural track luge in Mariazell, two defending champions are at the start: Fabian Brunner (ITA) grabbed the gold medal in the men's singles two years ago in Jaufental/Val Giovo (ITA). The 19-year-old from Feldthurns is going to the European Championships with confidence, in the Junior World Cup he won three out of four races and secured the overall victory in a superior manner. He was also on the podium twice at the general class World Cup in Jaufental/Val Giovo in January.

The "Azzurri" are also among the hottest contenders for a medal in the women's singles. Jenny Castiglioni celebrated this season two wins in the Junior World Cup and secured the overall victory, ahead of her teammate Tina Stuffer and Germany's Sarah Schiller. Bitter for the hosts: The Junior Vice European Champion 2021, Riccarda Ruez, is not at the start due to injury. Defending champion Lisa Walch (GER) is no longer eligible to start in the junior class.

In the doubles, the defending champions Anton Gruber Genetti/Hannes Unterholzner (ITA) face strong competition from their own team. Tobias Paur/Andreas Hofer (ITA) won the last two races in the Junior World Cup ahead of Gruber Genetti/Unterholzner. The reigning Junior World Champions Matevz Vertelj/Vid Kralj (SLO) are always good for a surprise, the Slovaks Peter Neupauer/Dominik Neupauer can also count on medal chances.
