Ratschings (pps) Marie-Luise Rainer, former Overall World Cup champion and race director at the 2006 Olympic luge competitions, will celebrate a special birthday in Ratschings, South Tyrol, on Thursday, April 23. A life without luge is hardly imaginable for the four-time Olympian, who finished sixth in Sarajevo in 1984.
After a successful career including an Overall World Cup victory in 1985/1986, a bronze medal at the 1979 World Championships and a silver medal at the 1980 European Championships, Marie-Luise Rainer started to work as a coach for Canada and later became an official. For many years, she has been working for the International Luge Federation (FIL) as a permanent Technical Delegate (TD) at the Junior World Cups. In addition to this, she is part of the coaches’ crew of the Italian federation.
