Mathias Benesch to become CEO of Saxony’s state federation in 2019

Mathias Benesch

Altenberg (RWH) Mathias Benesch, the 2001 European Champion in four-man bobsleigh, is due to leave his post as CEO of Wintersport Altenberg GmbH (WiA) in his home district to take up a new role as head of the Luge, Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation of Saxony (RBSV) after the winter season. The 50-year-old will succeed Wolfgang Strauß at the regional association. The former CEO and performance sports coordinator is set to retire. Benesch’s successor as track head has not yet been confirmed.

“After almost eleven years as CEO of the WiA, I wanted to take on a new challenge”, explains Benesch, who still currently manages the track. He will also remain in Altenberg as his place of work will stay more or less the same – the WiA and RBSV offices are located in the same building at the ice track. According to information from Altenberg, he is expected to take up his new post on 1 March 2019 after a joint familiarisation period.
