Matthew Mortensen announces retirement

Lake Placid (RWH) The USA’s two-time Olympic entrant Matthew Mortensen has called time on his career. His former partner Jayson Terdiman is set to form a new doubles duo with Justin Krewson next winter. Like Mortensen, Krewson’s previous partner Andrew Sherk has also retired from the sport. The United States Luge Association (USLA) announced the news in a press release issued in Lake Placid. Mortensen-Terdiman were third in the 2017 Viessmann World Cup standings, and anchored USA Luge to a 2017 World Championship silver medal in the team relay.
Matthew Mortensen competed in the 2014 and 2018 Winter Games. He and his partner Preston Griffall finished 14th in Sochi (RUS) before going on to claim tenth with his teammate Jayson Terdiman in PyeongChang. The US quartet claimed fifth in the team relay in 2014.
His former partner Jayson Terdiman has competed in two Winter Olympic Games to date. In 2014, he finished eleventh with his then partner Christian Niccum. The duo Krewson/Sherk finished eighth in PyeongChang 2018.
