Max Langenhan unbeatable at Olympic Bobrun St. Moritz-Celerina

Podium Men's Singles, St. Moritz 2023

St. Moritz-Celerina (FIL/18.02.2023) Max Langenhan's winning streak also continues at the Olympic Bobrun St. Moritz-Celerina. At the 8th EBERSPÄCHER World Cup, the athlete from Thuringia took his fourth World Cup victory in a row in the singles. He won with an overall time of 2:13,596 ahead of teammate Felix Loch and Latvia's Kristers Aparjods, who advanced to the podium from eleventh place.

World Champion Jonas Müller and his Austrian teammate Nico Gleirscher benefited from their early starting numbers in the first run and led the field for a long time. Then came Vice World Champion Max Langenhan and put twelve hundredths between himself and the competitors with an impressive first run. Also in the second run the 23-year-old, who trains at the Olympic base in Oberhof, didn't loose anything despite a huge mistake and celebrated his first victory on the natural ice track and the seventh of his career in total.

Felix Loch laughed at the start facing the puddles in the start lane, but then put a clean run on the ice and was only beaten by 11 thousandths. Kristers Aparjods finished third, 0.319 seconds behind, closely followed by the Austrians Nico Gleirscher (+0.352 sec.), Jonas Müller (+0.386 sec.), David Gleirscher (+0.542 sec.) and Wolfgang Kindl (+0.585 sec.) in fourth to seventh place.

Dominik Fischnaller was fast at the start as usual, but just like in the training he did not cope well with the natural ice track in Engadin. However, with his eighth place he collected important points for the overall World Cup. Before the season final in Winterberg he continues to lead the ranking with 757 points, followed by Felix Loch (721 p.) and Wolfgang Kindl (600 p.). David Gleirscher (AUT, 596 p.) and Max Langenhan (585 p.) can still hope for the podium, too.

Quotes:

Max Langenhan (GER): “I panicked a bit during the second run because I made a big mistake. When I saw Felix at the finish, I was pretty sure it wasn't enough. However, as heartily as he was pleased, it shows again how much we appreciate each other's success. It would have been cool if we had finished at the same time. I'm happy to be on top at all with that mistake.”

Felix Loch (GER): “It was really a super second run of mine. It worked great at the start. If Max does not make the mistake, he would win easily here. It would have been nice to win, then I would have gained even more points over Dominik, but this way it will be exciting next week. There are still 36 points, but Dominik knows how to race well in Winterberg. I'll have to talk to Max to see if he'll let me go first (laughs). I'll leave myself to be surprised, try to have another good race in Winterberg. Then we'll see who's in the lead at the end. If it's second place, I'll be happy too, because the season has been really good again.”

Kristers Aparjods (LAT): “To be on the podium here twice in a row is really great. Of course, I was also lucky in the second run today. My first run was not so good, but it got warmer and warmer and the track melted away. That helped me today. I am very happy about the good result and with the points, I can continue to compete for the overall World Cup. Let's see how it works out in Winterberg.”
