Max Langenhan with third World Cup victory in a row

Podium Men, Winterberg 2023

Winterberg (FIL/11.02.2023) It was foggy and much warmer than during the training runs at the VELTINS EisArena Winterberg today at noon for the men's race. As in the previous week, Max Langenhan coped best with the changed conditions. He set the best time twice and won in an overall time of 1:45.687 ahead of World Champion Jonas Müller (AUT, +0.300 sec.) and teammate Felix Loch (+0.322 sec.). It was his third World Cup victory in a row.

World Champion Jonas Müller (AUT) was clearly better in the track than his teammates, who all like to compete in Winterberg. The 25-year-old sports soldier from Bludenz benefited from his early start number in the first run and was only two hundredths behind the leader Max Langenhan.

Weakened by health problems, Sprint World Champion Felix Loch had to skip yesterday's seeded training and was in fifth place after the first run, 0.157 seconds behind his leading teammate. With a great second run he finished third on the podium, closely followed by overall World Cup leader Dominik Fischnaller (ITA, +0.332 sec.), Austria's Wolfgang Kindl (+0.484 sec.) and Italy's Leon Felderer (+0.492 sec.). The 23-year-old Felderer from Latzfons was still in third place after the first run and had almost been able to celebrate his first World Cup podium.

Winner Max Langenhan has been on the podium in every race since he started the season in Sigulda. If the 23-year-old sports soldier from Friedrichroda had not missed the first three World Cups due to injury, he would definitely have a serious say in the fight for the overall World Cup. With the fifth World Cup victory of his career, he moves up to seventh place in the overall standings. Dominik Fischnaller continues to lead the ranking with 665 points.

Quotes:

Max Langenhan, Winterberg 2023

Max Langenhan (GER): “I'm in a really good shape and don't have as much pressure in the races as Felix, who is still competing for the overall World Cup. It's nice that we always manage to finish at the front and get podium positions. I'm very happy for Felix that he finished third after being sick all week. It's a great team result, we're all very happy about that.”

Jonas Müller (AUT): “I finally managed to get two consistently good runs down today. This is usually always my problem. Today it worked well. It was a little slower than in training, so I struggled with the material set-up, but it worked well. The start was not so fast, so I hope I can improve on that in the sprint tomorrow. I was already Sprint World Champion here in Winterberg in 2019. I would like to repeat that with a victory tomorrow.”

Felix Loch (GER): “Our team of doctors has put all their efforts into it. I have to take antibiotics, but they gave me the green light for racing today. I got the maximum out of it with third place. Max was really strong. With a perfect first run, I might have been able to tease Jonas, but I'm really happy with the result.”
