Oberhof (FIL/January 16, 2026) Melina Fischer, Andriy Mandziy, and Moritz Jäger/Valentin Steudte impressed with their victories at the 6th FIL Nations Cup of the Olympic season at LOTTO Thüringen EisArena Oberhof on Friday, January 24, 2025.

In the exciting men's singles race, Andriy Mandziy secured victory in a highly competitive field of 25 starters competing for 18 starting places in the World Cup. With a flawless performance, the Ukrainian secured first place on the demanding Oberhof ice track with a time of 43.241 seconds. Poland's Mateusz Sochowicz finished second, +0.104 seconds behind Mandziy. Sochowicz impressed with the fastest start time and the fastest split times, leading until halfway through the race. However, Mandziy's speed in the final section pushed Sochowicz back, who finished second with a time of 43.345 seconds. Last year's winner Svante Kohala completed the podium. The Swede delivered a strong performance with a time of 43.477 seconds (+0.236).

"After Winterberg, I am now also delighted with the Nations Cup victory in Oberhof. These qualifying races are very important to me. I am very happy about my medal and that I was able to hold my own in this strong field,“ said winner Mandziy. Mateusz Sochowicz congratulated him and said: ”My run wasn't good but it was fast, which is a good start. I hope to do better tomorrow and put in a convincing performance in the World Cup."

In the women's event, Melina Fischer secured the gold medal. The Saxon crossed the finish line in 42.600 seconds and was delighted with her second World Cup qualification this season: “It's great to be back in the World Cup and I hope to finish in the top ten tomorrow and maybe even make it onto the podium at the U23 European Championships.” Barbara Allmaier finished second, 0.053 seconds behind. The Austrian announced that she would be competing in her last race this winter. After missing out on Olympic qualification, the Tyrolean is taking a break.

The doubles race was won by local heroes Moritz Jaeger and Valentin Steudte, as they did last year at the seventh Nations Cup. With an outstanding run and a time of 42.160 seconds, the two Thuringians won ahead of the Ukrainians Hoi/Kachmar (+0.229 seconds behind) and their compatriots Martsinovskyi/Babura (+0.343 seconds).

Women's doubles is the newest discipline in the EBERSPÄCHER World Cup. It will be included in the program for the first time at the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. None of the women's doubles teams had to compete in the Nations Cup in Oberhof on January 16, 2026, to qualify for the World Cup. All duos will take part in the training session for the seeded group on Friday, January 16, 2026, starting at 2:30 p.m.
