FIL President Fendt enjoys great reputation within IOC

Lausanne (pps) Josef Fendt is still held in great esteem within the International Olympic Committee, IOC. The President of the International Luge Federation, FIL, has been appointed by IOC President Jacques Rogge to the IOC Commission “Sport and Environment” for another two years.

Since 1994, as successor of the late founding president Bert Isatitsch, Josef Fendt (62) has been directing the fortune of the International Luge Federation, FIL, and has always promoted the professionalism of the federation. Thanks to the efforts of the former World champion (1970 and 1974) as well as Olympic silver medallist (1976 in Innsbruck), the sport of luge succeeded in establishing itself as a core sport within the programme of Olympic Winter Games.

Under Fendt’s leadership the FIL has also increased its TV coverage as well as its sponsorship revenues. Right now the FIL boasts a total of 53 member federations all over the world. Furthermore an additional discipline - the Team Relay - has been created which, due to its great attractiveness, might well be part of the Olympic programme at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.
