Zwickau (pps) A memorial for the chairman of the Sport Commission Karl Zenker, who passed away in 2007, will be unveiled on May 9 at the spring meeting of the Executive Board of the International Luge Federation (FIL). On the occasion of the Summer Cup, a luge competition with a long tradition, FIL President Josef Fendt from Berchtesgaden will ceremoniously unveil the wrought-iron memorial.
Karl Zenker died on July 7, 2007, after a long illness. He was very committed to the sport of luge on a national and international basis and the main initiator of the first plastic luge track worldwide, which was inaugurated in Zwickau in 1979. As long-time President of the Luge and Bobsled Federation of the German federal state of Saxony, Executive Board member and chairman of the FIL Sport Commission, he significantly formed today’s international competition system and was one of the most important sport ambassadors of the city of Zwickau.
