Fifth victory in six races – Felix Loch can hardly be stopped

Winterberg (pps) Olympic and two-time World Champion Felix Loch, Germany, can hardly be stopped this season. At the sixth stop of the Viessmann Luge World Cup series on the artificially iced track in Winterberg, Loch already posted his fifth victory this winter, clocking a combined two-run time of 1:46.981 minutes.

Germany even celebrated a quintuple success in the men’s singles as youngster Ralf Palik finished on second position (0.238 seconds behind) after a very good second run. David Moeller (0.259 seconds behind) took the third spot on the podium.

Andi Langenhahn (0.293 seconds behind) follows on fourth place, ahead of Johannes Ludwig (0.395 seconds behind).

It seems to be a foregone conclusion that Felix Loch will take the overall Viessmann Luge World Cup crown. With 585 points to his credit, Loch is leading by 145 points ahead of compatriot David Moeller (440 points). Another German luger holds third position: Johannes Ludwig with 366 points.

Quotes

Felix Loch (GER / 2010 Olympic and two-time World Champion)

“My chances for an overall World Cup victory seem to be quite good. It was very important for the race that we found the right set-up for the sled last night. Now, I’m really looking forward to St. Moritz. Only some people know that I’ve tackeld the track a lot of times and that I love the track.”

Ralf Palik (GER / second place at the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Winterberg)

“I’m usually quite good in the second run. But today, my first was so good that an even better second run improved my ranking to second place. However, due to the averse weather conditions it was a tough race for all the lugers.”

David Moeller (GER / 2010 Olympic silver medaillist, two-time World Champion)

“Well, Felix weighs six kilograms more than I. It has always been my aim to strive for a podium finish. The fact that in each run, I’m one tenth of a second behind Felix shows that I’ve found my place in the World Cup. After all, I’ve been on the podium at five of six World Cup events. This is the reason why I’m confident with regard to the the upcoming events.”
