Oberwiesenthal (pps) Sylke Otto, the most successful woman luger of all times, will be made the first female honorary citizen of Oberwiesenthal. Otto, who is now 40 years old, had finished her career as a luge athlete on January 12, 2007 due to her pregnancy; her daughter Sina was born on May 29, 2007. Prior to Sylke Otto, Ulrich Wehling, three-time Olympic champion in Nordic combined, and Jens Weißflog, three-time Olympic gold medalist in ski-jumping, had also been appointed honorary citizens of Oberwiesenthal.
With two Olympic victories, four World Championships titles, four Overall victories in the Viessmann World Cup and the still unbeaten record of 37 wins in the Viessmann World Cup, there is no doubt Sylke Otto can be considered the most successful female luge athlete of all times.
