New York (RWH) A great honour for luger Natalie Geisenberger: the 2014 Olympic Champion and two-times World Champion has been nominated for the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Sportswoman of the Year Award. The 27-year-old German athlete is in illustrious company, with nominees including Serena Williams of the USA, currently number one in the women’s tennis rankings, who secured her 21st Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in July. Other nominees are alpine skier Anna Fenninger of Austria, who took two gold medals (giant slalom and the super-G) and one silver (downhill) at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2015, and Russian figure skater Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, who won both the World and European Championships in 2015. The award winners will be elected by a 50-50 public and Awards Committee vote. The public vote is open until the end of August at www.sportswomanoftheyear.com. The winner will be announced on 20 October 2015 in New York City.
