Königssee (pps) The reigning World Champions Tatjana Hüfner and Felix Loch, as well as the six-time overall Viessmann World Cup champions Patric Leitner/Alexander Resch won the German luge championships held at the artificial track in Königssee.
Through internal selection and their fourth German title, the four-time World Champions Leitner/Resch thus made it to the World Cup squad of the German Bobsleigh and Luge Federation (BSD); after finishing eleventh at the 2008 World Championships in Oberhof, they had not been seeded for the 2008/2009 World Cup in contrast to the German medalists. At the end of November, a new season of the Viessmann World Cup will begin at the Olympic track in Innsbruck-Igls.
In women’s singles, besides the seeded athletes Tatjana Hüfner and World Championships silver medalist Natalie Geisenberger, the new German head coach Norbert Loch (aged 46) also nominated Anke Wischnewski, fifth placer at the World Championships and Steffi Sieger, the past season’s Overall Junior World Cup winner.
In men’s singles, in addition to the seeded athletes Felix Loch, World Championships silver medalist David Möller and World Championships bronze medalist Andi Langenhan, the last two available World Cup tickets went to Jan Eichhorn (2007 World Championships bronze medalist) and Johannes Ludwig.
In addition to Leitner/Resch, the seeded World Champions André Florschütz/Torsten Wustlich and Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt, World Championships silver medalists, were nominated in doubles.
