New Arrival and Wedding: The Luge Family celebrates new Chapters in Life

Berchtesgaden (FIL/May 19, 2025) The month of May brings spring-like temperatures and great joy for the FIL luge family: Two special events are providing moments of happiness away from the ice tracks.
On May 2, 2025, Emily Sweeney (USA) and Dominik Fischnaller (ITA) tied the knot in Italy. The two Olympic luge athletes have been a couple for 15 years and crowned their love with a wedding in Meransen, South Tyrol, where they now live together in their new home. Sweeney, fresh from winning bronze at the 2025 World Championships, and Fischnaller, who came third at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, are now starting a new chapter together in the heart of the Dolomites, on the road to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.

Tyrol's luge hero David Gleirscher also has reason to celebrate the arrival of a new addition to his family: his third son was born on May 17, 2025. The 2018 Olympic Champion in Men’s singles posted a touching photo on Instagram with the caption: “Tiny feet, big love.” Little Nelio now joins his brothers Leon (born in 2017) and Noah (born in 2020) in the Gleirscher family.
The FIL congratulates them on this wonderful news and shares in the athletes' joy at their personal milestones.
