Berchtesgaden (FIL/22 Apr 22 2026) After an outstanding Olympic season, Olympic champion Magdalena Matschina is entering a new chapter in her career: the 21-year-old will now compete in doubles together with Melina Fischer.

Together with Dajana Eitberger, Matschina wrote one of the most remarkable success stories of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. The newly formed duo quickly rose to the top of the world, winning silver in the first-ever Olympic women’s doubles event and crowning their journey with gold in the team relay. With Eitberger’s planned retirement, this special partnership now comes to an end.

“I am incredibly grateful to Dajana. Over the past two years, I have learned not only a great deal athletically, but also for my path as an athlete and as a person,” said Matschina.

Eitberger also looks back on their time together with pride and great appreciation, while expressing confidence in what lies ahead for Matschina: “It makes me incredibly proud to see the path Magdalena has taken. She has earned this development through hard work. I am very happy for her that she now has Melina as a new partner – and I am sure the two of them will carve out their own successful path.”

The decision to team up with Melina Fischer followed intensive discussions with the coaching staff as well as joint test runs. It quickly became clear that both the sporting and personal chemistry were right. “We already knew each other well – and on the sled, it worked immediately. Trust and feeling are crucial in doubles, and that fits perfectly between us,” Matschina explained. Fischer, a former singles athlete, brings strong driving skills and significant development potential to the team.

Looking ahead, the newly formed duo is clearly focusing on the upcoming Olympic cycle, with their sights set on the Olympic Winter Games 2030.
