IRO with a long tradition
The IRO looks back on a long history and is 33 years older than the International Luge Federation FIL itself. The first version of the IRO was adopted at the spring meeting of the International Sledding Federation (I.S.V.) in Prague in 1924. The I. S. V. as the predecessor association of the FIL and FIBT (later IBSF - International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation) was founded in Dresden on November 8, 1913. Within the I.S.V. and later the FIBT, there was a “Section Luge”, which held its first “technical” congress in Cortina (ITA) on February 7, 1953.
After the Section Luge split from the FIBT, the FIL was founded in Davos in 1957 as the International Luge Federation.
