Winterberg (pps) The planning and building permits as well as the authorization of federal and public funds for the construction of a new finish area at the luge and bobsleigh track in Winterberg have been granted. “As we were given the green light we can start with the construction of the finish area after the end of the season in March,” explained Petra Sapp, Managing Director of the “Erholungs- and Sportzentrum Winterberg GmbH” (Recreation and Sports Center), the operating company of the bobsleigh track Winterberg Hochsauerland. The new finish area shall be completed before next season so that athletes can already enjoy the new facilities in October 2013. The estimated costs for the construction of the finish area amount to about two million Euro (approximately 2.6 million U.S. dollars). Eighty percent of the sum will be supplied from federal and public funds. The modification became necessary as the finish no longer conformed to the standards of a modern high performance sports center. Apart from new operational areas for athletes and officials the exit area of the track will become bigger.
