Park City (pps) The Suzuki Challenge Cup, to be carried out on the track of the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, will start into the new season with a new system. Based on the World Cup overall standings of the 2005-06 season there are 16 competitors eligible in the men’s event, 12 in the women’s as well as eight doubles. Each national federation may enter a maximum of two athletes or pairs per event.

In all disciplines the best four athletes will be seeded into the four pre-competition groups. The men will be drawn into four groups of four lugers, the women into four groups of three athletes. There will be four pairs in the doubles event. The respective winners of each group will start in the semi-final and the fastest two lugers go through to the final. Places three and four are based on the times achieved during the semi-final. From place five onwards the rankings are determined based on the times achieved during the pre-competition.

Near the starting area a so-called „Parc Fermé“ will be set-up. All sleds must be brought to this marked area from track transportation, they may neither be exchanged nor its parts be replaced between runs. However, the steels may be prepared (filed, sharpened, polished).
