42nd FIL Luge World Championships in Cesana the absolute higlight

Reichenau / Austria (pps) Nine Viessmann Luge World Cup events in six countries as well as the 42nd FIL World Luge Championships in Cesana, Italy, as the absolute highlight are to be found on the calendar of the International Luge Federation, FIL, in the post-Olympic season. This schedule was determined by the FIL Executive Board on the occasion of their Spring Session in Reichenau, Austria.

For the first time Cesana, 2006 venue of the Olympic luge events at the Winter Games in Torino, Italy, will be host to FIL World Championships (January 28 to 30, 2011). In 2008 the artificially-iced track had organized FIL European Championships.

The Viessmann Luge World Cup takes off into its 34th season on November 27-28, 2010 on the Olympic luge track in Innsbruck-Igls. Apart from the only artificially-iced track in Austria, another eight events are part of the World Cup series. These are Winterberg (Germany - December 4-5, 2010), Calgary (Canada – December 10-11, 2010), Park City (USA – December 17-18, 2010), Koenigssee (Germany – January 5-6 or January 8-9, 2011), Oberhof (Germany – January 15-16, 2011), Altenberg (Germany – January 22-23, 2011), Paramonovo (Russia – February 12-13, 2011) and Sigulda (Latvia – February 19-20, 2011). Additionally, it is planned to carry out six team relay events in Innsbruck-Igls, Winterberg, Koenigssee, Oberhof, Altenberg and Sigulda.
