Altenberg (pps) U.S. Luger Julia Clukey, fifth at the 2009 Worlds in Lake Placid, had to delay her comeback and will not participate in the 43rd FIL Luge World Championships in Altenberg (February 10-12). A neck condition, which lead to surgery last spring, prevented the 26-year-old from competing in the Viessmann Luge World Cup this winter. The 2010 Olympian was feeling fine again, and was recently medically cleared to compete. She was invited by American coaches to race against teammate Erin Hamlin last week in Igls, Austria at a pre-Worlds training session but did not meet the time standard set for her. Clukey has since returned to the U.S. to prepare for the U.S. National Championships next month.
