Oberhof (pps) Optimum success – this is what can be said of the performance of Germany’s lugers in Oberhof last year. In all four disciplines the winners were German athletes; only in the Team Relay Event – well, there is no other way actually – the silver and bronze medals went to Austria and Italy. While the medals awarded in the women’s singles were not really a surprise – they went to Tatjana Huefner, Anke Wischnewski and Natalie Geisenberger respectively – it was a different story in the men’s singles. The international competitors pulled quite a long face when Germany’s Andi Langenhan won the event ahead of compatriots Johannes Ludwig and Jan Eichhorn, thereby defeating luge “stars” such as Albert Demchenko, David Moeller, Armin Zoeggeler or Felix Loch. The same story occurred in the doubles’ where the international top teams were all left empty-handed: André Florschuetz-Torsten Wustlich won the World Cup ahead of their team-mates Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt and Patric Leitner-Alexander Resch. The only comfort – in the meantime, two of those three doubles’ have ended their successful luge career.
